NJA Tournament of Bands TIA

I still have many pictures from Ghana to upload but I wanted to add some things I've done more recently. There will be some definite back-and-forth between old and new photography/work but I did a shoot last night and would like to post a few photographs from it. The photos aren't special but the event was fun and I had three published today in the Press of Atlantic City on the front page of the region section. These were the three published images:

Jess Lyles, a junior at Daniel Boone High School in Birdsborough, PA performed as the Spirit in her band's show "Awakening" on Thursday evening, April 30, at the Wildwoods Convention Center. Daniel Boone High School was one of six performing bands in the Scholastic Open Percussion class during the Percussion Preliminary Competition. They finished in third with a score of 91.0.

Kelly Muthler, senior, performs with her band Central Mountain from Mill Hall, PA. Muthler plays the xylophone with triange, ride cymbal, and bells during her band's show "Silence is Golden." Central Mountain performed in the Scholastic A Percussion class during the Percussion Preliminary Competition on Thursday, April 30, at the Wildwoods Convention Center. They finished in second with a score of 91.3.

Daniel Boone High School of Birdsborough, PA performs their show "Awakening" during the Percussion Preliminary Competition at the Wildwoods Convention Center on Thursday, April 30. The group was one of six bands in the Scholastic Open Percussion class. They finished in third with a score of 91.0.

I attended the Tournament of Bands last night at the Wildwoods Convention Center for the Percussion Preliminary Competition of the TIA All-Chapter Championships. I attended Middle Township High School where marching band was one of the most important things to the school, so it reminded me of when I'd go to watch all my TOB friends perform at their championships. Here were a few of the other images I shot from the night.

Kyle Montondo, junior, Kyle Mondoc, sophomore, and Colleen Brown, senior, make up the tenor line for Daniel Boone High School during the Percussion Preliminary Competition at the Wildwoods Convention Center on Thursday, April 30. Their band's show was titles "Awakening" because they awoke a spirit with a life-size Ouija Board at the beginning and spent the rest of the show trying to get rid of it. They finished in third with a score of 91.0.

Damien Williams, senior base drummer, and Kyle Dobson, senior tenor player, perform with their band Cab Calloway from Wilmington, DE during the Percussion Preliminary Competition of the TIA All-Chapter Championships at the Wildwoods Convention Center on Thursday, April 30. Cab Calloway performed in the Scholastic A Percussion calss along with five other bands. They finished in sixth place for their class with a score of 88.6.

Cab Calloway High School performs a beach-themed show during the Percussion Preliminary Competition held at the Wildwoods Convention Center on Thursday, April 30. They performed in the Scholastic A Percussion class and finished in sixth place with a final score of 88.6.

A member of Imperial Dynasty performs on snare during the Percussion Preliminary Competition held Thusday, April 30, at the Wildwoods Convention Center. Imperial Dynasty performed in the Independent A Percussion class with two other bands and received the top score for their class with a 92.9.

It was great to go and see the shows these musicians put on. Not only can they play instruments (in this case percussion) extremely well, but they have to be able to move in-synch and perform their show and theme without being distracted. I thought everyone did a magnificent job last night and wish everyone good luck for the rest of the weekend.
